Zyablov Vladimir Ilyich - Rector of CSMI in 1970-1989

In 1970, Professor V.I Zyablov was appointed the Rector of the Institute. He kept the Institute’s traditions: the personnel professional capabilities were growing on, the contingent of students, including those from the less advanced countries, was increasing.

In 1970, the Institute received the first-category educational-institution status that manifested the recognition of its contribution to pedagogical and scientific activities.

In 1978, the stomatology faculty was opened, with 100 students. Then, the preparatory courses were opened.

In 1979, the Institute was training 3.5 thousand students, including 250 foreigners from 46 countries.

The Institute had already 53 departments where 65 doctors of science and 252 candidates of science were working.

In January, 1979, the faculty of refresher and improvement of medical doctors started, later it was renamed into the faculty of post-diploma education. The structural changes of the Institute evidenced the growth of its authority, successes in the teaching, pedagogical and scientific activity. The number of departments was growing, at the end of the eighties they were 58. The scientific schools of biochemistry, microbiology, morphology, pharmacology, embryology, pediatrics, therapeutics, and surgery were progressing.

For merits in training of qualified experts for the national public health services and development of the medical science, to its 50-th anniversary, the Crimean Medical Institute was awarded with a high-rank government award – the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.

The eighties were featured with a build-up of the Institute’s material resources: the sports complex, educational block 2-a, the lecture block, hostels, the dwelling house and the boarding house for the employees were constructed, the recreation-and-rehabilitation center was put into operation, the track-and-field athletics arena was equipped.

CSMI was one of the ten leading medical educational institutions of the USSR and by right was considered one of the best medical institutes.
